Thomas Johnson joined Progressive Planning in 2011 bringing more than three decades experience as a certified public account (CPA) and ten years as a wealth manager. Thomas plays an integral role in developing personalized strategies for the firm’s individual and business clients to help minimize tax exposure and liability throughout the wealth planning process.
Thomas believes that a total wealth management approach that includes tax, investment, insurance and retirement planning aim to help clients create, preserve and increase confidence, assurance, and hope. This, in turn, allows them to better preserve, enjoy and transfer their wealth according to their wishes. He is adept in advising business owners across the full range of their wealth management needs, including cash flow management, succession planning, buy/sell agreements, corporate benefits and health insurance.
A licensed CPA since 1981, Thomas is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA). He holds his Series, 6, 63 and 65 securities registrations with LPL Financial. He also served as the Vice Chair for Leadership Utah.
He studied accounting at Brigham Young University (1978) and chemistry, and accounting at Weber State University (1976) before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Utah in 1981.
He is active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Thomas and his wife Stephanie live in Salt Lake City where they raised four sons: Thomas, Abraham, Aaron and John. Thomas enjoys snow and water skiing, handball, golf and Shakespeare.
